The Nigerian Music Industry is Africans largest depot of
talented, industrious, creative, and evolving musicians who have taken Nigeria
music to the world stage.
Such names as Fela, 2baba, Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, Don Jazzy, Psquare, Tiwa Savage, Dbanj, Asa, Flavour etc are
names making waves in the music industry in Africa and beyond. The quality and
style of music being dashed out by established and upcoming act can only be
A-classed and also they have been collaboration with other artist both
internationally and locally.
This new development
is a thing of great joy. Everyone is living up to the challenge to be counted
as the competition has resulted in better quality of audio, video, and lyrics in
demand. Even better with the international collaboration like Drake featured by Wizkid, Meek Mill featured by
davido and a host of other international collaborations with Nigeria
musicians which point to the growing of the industry not just in Africa but in
the world.
Banging hit such as Wizkid’s-come
closer, Davido’s-30 billion, Olamide’s-Wo, Tiwa savage’s-ma lo and a
host of many other banging hits showed the enormous growth the industry has
recorded over the years. However, the increase in the numbers of television
channels showing Nigeria music industry is great. Stations such as Mtv Base, Hip Tv, Soundcity, Trace Tv, Channel O Africa, and many more others plays an important role in bring many of
the numerous talented artistes to the global
stage through the use of playing their
videos on television to promote them. More so, the introduction of
awards for the best performing artistes and the reward for hard work. Such
ceremonies namely: Channel O music video
award, the Headies Award, Afrimma Award, Mtv Africa music awards(MAMA) etc.
The 22nd MOBO award held at the first direct
arena in leeds, United Kingdom and saw some of our favourite Nigeria artists
win big. DMW boss Davido who performed at the event, emerged as the winner of Best African Act award beating fellow
nominees Eugy, Juls, Maleek Berry, Mr Eazi,
and many more. And our very own starboy, Wizkid, won the best international act
, beating top international artists like Drake,
SZA, Cardi B, JAY-Z, Kendrick Lamar and
more. Making not only Nigeria proud but also Africa.
The Nigeria music
industry is a wind that will blow without stop. It is interesting then to note
that, this industry must be supported to grow all more as it plays a role in
Nigeria’s economy. The future of industry is filled with promises. Let us join
hands to make it a success.
