John Boyega: Why I pushed for Wizkid’s ‘Daddy Yo’ to be used in Pacific Rim

John Boyega, star of ‘Detroit’ and ‘Star Wars’, has explained why he included Wizkid’s song, ‘Daddy Yo’, among the soundtrack for his upcoming film ‘Pacific Rim’.
According to the British-Nigerian actor, it’s important to have Afrobeats music in the action flick.
Boyega, a fast-rising Hollywood star, said he had the “opportunity to influence creative choices” in the film by virtue of producing it.
In an Instagram post where he was seen dancing to ‘Daddy Yo’, he wrote: “One of the most exciting things about producing Pacific Rim Uprising was the opportunity to influence the creative choices. So I put @wizkidayo song “Daddy yo” in the movie. Jaegers need afrobeats too!
“Oh yeah… here’s a video of me listening to this very song. Cool, calm and collected…. I think”.
Boyega’s company, Upper Room Entertainment, produced Pacific Rim. The actor stars as Jake Pentecost in the movie.
Back in December 2017, Boyega revealed that Pacific Rim will have a strong Nigerian influence.
“Pacific Rim is very important to me because Pacific Rim will actually be the first movie that I have done that I would heavily target Nigeria as a main marketing spot,” he had said.
Like Wizkid, Davido and MC Galaxy have in the past had their songs used as soundtrack of Disney movie ‘Queen of Katwe’.
