Ok, maybe its not so funny being on the receiving end, but then, I couldn't help but wonder at the naivety of the victim.
According to the report, an Australian woman wanted to buy two new apple iphones, but got two fresh apples instead.
The 21 year old Brisbane woman who paid £800 for two new Apple iPhones got the shock of her life when found two real green apples inside the box.
She had placed an advertisement in an online buy-and-sell site saying she was looking to purchase a number of iPhones. Not long after the advert was placed in the Gumtree site a woman called and said she had two Apples for sale.
Police say the two women then arranged to meet at a McDonald's outlet, where the transaction took place.
The purchaser handed over $1500, the equivalent of £800, and was given two new iPhone boxes in return. Her mistake was, she failed to check what was inside in front of the seller.
On returning home the young woman opened the boxes and found to her horror that they contained real apples.
Police in the area are still investigating and have warned people to be wary when they buy anything online.
Apparently, scammers come in all races...lol!
