U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday night fired acting Attorney-General Sally Yates for refusing to enforce his Refugee Order designed to protect the citizens of the country.
The White House, in statement obtained by the Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in New York, announced the appointment of Dana Boente as the new acting Attorney-General.
According to Vanguard, Yates sack came after she told Justice Department lawyers not to make legal arguments defending Trump’s executive order on immigration and refugees.
The White House statement added that “tonight, President Trump relieved Ms. Yates of her duties and subsequently named Dana Boente, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, to serve as Acting Attorney General until Senator Jeff Sessions is finally confirmed by the Senate, where he is being wrongly held up by Democrat senators for strictly political reasons”. The White House quoted Boente as accepting the honour to serve in the new capacity.
