Floyd Mayweather defeats Conor McGregor in 10 rounds

Floyd Mayweather outclassed mixed martial arts champion Conor McGregor to extend his boxing record to a perfect 50-0.

The multiple world champion dealt a technical knockout on the UFC champion in the 10th round at the jam-packed T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, US.

Mayweather, already regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time, has now surpassed Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 record for most wins without a loss or draw.

Having come out of retirement for the ‘superfight’ against McGregor, Mayweather is guaranteed a $100-200 million payday — which will surge upwards depending on television revenue.

Although McGregor was full of intent and unleashed a flurry of attacks at Mayweather in the first three rounds, by the fourth round, the latter started landing blow after blow against the struggling Irishman.

In the 10th round, the referee intervened and stopped the fight after Mayweather’s successive punches had thrown a tiring McGregor against the ropes.

“Our game plan was to take our time, go to him, let him shoot his shots early and then take him out down the stretch,” Mayweather said after the fight.

“We know in MMA he fights for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, he started to slow down. I guaranteed to everybody that this wouldn’t go the distance.”

The former five-weight world champion, whose career earnings have reportedly surged to $1 billion, announced his retirement from the sport.

“This was my last fight tonight. For sure. Tonight was my last fight. Tonight I chose the right dance partner to dance with. Conor you are a hell of a champion,” Mayweather said.
