Survey are carried out to achieve an objective and in doing so helps in the continuous study of human pattern to toward the identified issue. National Bureau of Statistics who constantly carry out surveys to help in National planning have published a result which seems to damn the opinion of people towards domestic violence against women in Nigeria.
The result of the findings in a newly released Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) by the National Bureau of Statistics indicates that 33.7% of Nigerian women believe that a man is justified in beating his wife for at least one of the following five reasons:
She goes out without telling him;
She neglects the kids;
She argues with him;
She refuses sex with him; or
She burns the food.
Among men, the percentage of those who believe a man is justified in beating his wife for any of those reasons is 21.5%.
