Breakout was one of Atari’s first ever arcade games and was released way back in 1976.
It involves keeping a ball in play as it bounces back and forth between a paddle that the player moves left and right, and a wall of bricks. When the ball hits a certain brick, it disappears and gives the player points.
Inspired by the 1972 game Pong, Steve Wozniak built Breakout, and he was aided by Apple baron Steve Jobs.
The popularity of the game meant it was later released on multiple platforms and got a spin-off, Super Breakout, and even got a mobile version.
