Stolen Babies: Nigerian Govt. Urged To Provide Adequate Security In Hospitals

The Network of Civil Society Organisations Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) has urged the Federal Government to provide adequate security to forestall stealing of newborn babies in hospitals.
The National President of the group, Mr Adaramola Emmanuel gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday.
Emmanuel said that cases of stolen babies in hospitals in some parts of the country was worrisome and urged all tiers of government to take action to prevent the ugly incidence.
NAN recalls that a day old baby of deaf and dumb parents was allegedly stolen at Yusuf Dantsoho General Hospital in January this year in Kaduna.
He suggested that if policemen were inadequate to provide security, officers and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and other security operatives should be deployed to some hospitals to provide security.
According to him, such operatives will check movement of people in and out of the hospitals.
The President also advised hospital management to put in place internal mechanism to guarantee the security of patients including newborn babies.
“There should be a scheduled time for visitors as it was the practice in the past and also control crowd in the hospitals.
“There must be sensitization to the public especially our mothers and wives to be watchful and be their own securities while in the hospital” he said.
