Controversial Nigerian artist Habeeb Okikilola Badmus, better known as Portable, has been taken into custody by the Kwara State Police Command due to defamation allegations filed against him by renowned fuji musician Saheed Osupa, whose full name is Okunola Saheed.
The police action was triggered by a formal complaint submitted by Osupa, which led to a Magistrate Court in Ilorin issuing a warrant for Portable's arrest.
According to a statement from the police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the allegations outlined in the petition include criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to disturb public peace, and the use of offensive language.
Ejire-Adeyemi further noted that Portable is currently in police custody as preparations are underway for his formal arraignment.
The statement emphasized the severity of the allegations, stating, “The petition includes serious claims such as criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, and the use of abusive language. Given the gravity of these accusations and the evidence provided, the Command obtained a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin.”
The arrest took place on Saturday, April 13, 2025, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, around 7:25 PM, after which Portable was transferred to Ilorin for further investigation.
Upon arrival, the suspect's statement was recorded in the presence of legal representatives from both parties. He remains in custody while arrangements are made to bring him to court promptly.
