Popular Nollywood star Funke Akindele, who previously served as the deputy governorship candidate for the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, has indicated that her foray into politics in the 2023 elections, while unsuccessful against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has not deterred her from future political engagement.
In a recent appearance on the inaugural live broadcast of the ‘WithChude’ podcast, Akindele shared insights into her past political experience and expressed a clear openness to returning to the political landscape. "I am glad I went into politics. And ask me, am I going to do it again? Oh, yes. Oh, I love it,” she enthusiastically declared.
Akindele explained that her initial motivation for entering politics stemmed from a desire to contribute meaningfully to the community. “My drive to support and give back to society led me to politics,” she stated. She further elaborated on the valuable lessons learned during her time navigating the complexities of the political arena.
“Witnessing the intensity, even the aggression, in politics was eye-opening,” Akindele admitted. “Observing female politicians and how they command respect and authority was particularly inspiring. It reinforced the idea that I, too, could be bold and speak my mind. I learned that courage and strength are essential, and that fear should not dictate one's path.”
She emphasized the personal growth that resulted from her political involvement. “Politics has broadened my understanding significantly. I’ve become more informed about my country and my state, and I’m now more inclined to base my opinions and arguments on facts and figures,” she explained.
Akindele’s recent comments mark a departure from her post-election online activity, which included the removal of political content from her Instagram profile, suggesting a potential hiatus from the political scene. However, her appearance on ‘WithChude’ signals a possible resurgence of her political ambitions.
