Two 14-year-old boys in the United Kingdom have been apprehended on suspicion of the alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl, an incident reported to have occurred outside a secondary school.
Dorset Police received a report around 7:45 PM on Sunday concerning the alleged assault in a field adjacent to The Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester, Dorset.
Authorities stated that the schoolgirl had met with the two boys earlier on the day of the reported incident. Detectives and specially trained officers have since spoken with the young victim, officials confirmed.
A police cordon remains in place at the scene as investigations and evidence searches are being conducted.
The two 14-year-old boys, both from the Weymouth area, were subsequently arrested on suspicion of rape and have since been released on bail while further inquiries are underway.
Inspector Sam Goom of Dorset Police advised local residents not to be "alarmed" by the increased police presence in the vicinity.
Inspector Goom emphasized, "We treat reports of sexual offenses with the utmost seriousness, and my colleagues have been conducting extensive inquiries into the incident in recent days while providing support to the victim."
He added, "You will observe an enhanced police presence around the playing fields as officers maximize their efforts to recover evidence; please do not be alarmed by this. Your local neighborhood officers will also be present in the areas surrounding the investigation. We acknowledge that this incident will cause concern within the community, and we encourage everyone to approach officers if they have any questions or concerns."
