2Baba Breaks Silence on Benue Killings: “I’m Angry, I’m Heartbroken”

Nigerian music icon Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has spoken out strongly against the continued violence and killings in Benue State. In a recent video shared online, the singer expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the worsening security situation in his home state.

Clearly emotional, 2Baba described the killings as unbearable, stating that he is “tired,” “terribly sad,” and “angry.” His words captured the feelings of many Nigerians who have watched with increasing frustration as lives are lost, homes destroyed, and communities displaced—often without justice or concrete government response.

The recent attacks in several parts of Benue have led to the deaths of dozens, with survivors left traumatized and displaced. Entire villages have reportedly been overrun by gunmen in what many believe are coordinated and unchecked attacks. This is not the first time Benue has come under such assault, but the frequency and brutality have escalated alarmingly.

2Baba’s public reaction marks a significant moment. While celebrities often lend their voices to trending issues, his comments were deeply personal. As a native of Benue State, his pain was not performative—it was rooted in identity, memory, and concern for his people.

He challenged leaders across all levels—traditional, religious, and political—to move beyond condemnation and take meaningful action. According to him, the time for mere talk is over. There must be serious, collective effort to protect lives and restore peace to Benue.

His statement, though brief, struck a national chord: “This has to stop. Serious action needs to be taken.”

For many observers, his words reflect the silence and helplessness of thousands of citizens who have either lost loved ones or live in constant fear. The power of 2Baba’s message lies in its urgency—it is not a request, but a cry for rescue.

The situation in Benue is no longer just a local crisis. It is a national concern. And until there is sustained attention, responsive leadership, and practical solutions, voices like 2Baba’s will remain a necessary alarm bell.

In moments like this, the country does not only need music—it needs courage, clarity, and conscience. 2Baba has shown all three.
