Grammy-winning sensation Tems is taking her impact beyond chart-topping songs with the launch of the Leading Vibe Initiative, a bold empowerment platform for young women in Africa’s music industry. With a mission to close the gender gap and uplift female creatives, Tems is now playing the role of mentor, advocate, and changemaker.
Tems announced her programme will launch in Lagos on the 8th - 9th August, 2025, and is open to female artists, producers, and songwriters aged 18–35. She revealed the application deadline is July 13, enabling aspiring talents to access mentorship, production training, and networking opportunities with top industry figures.
Inspired by her own journey as a self-taught musician navigating a male-dominated industry, Tems shared, “My goal with the Leading Vibe Initiative is to help discover and support talented young women who have the potential to redefine the industry… find their voices, step into their power and shape the future of music across the continent and globally.” She named it “a movement and a sanctuary” .
The statistics behind the initiative are stark: women represent just 22% of artists globally, with only 12.8% of songwriters and 3% of producers–figures Africa reflects, if not intensifies. To combat this imbalance, Tems is offering practical tools: mentorship sessions, hands-on workshops, and access to production equipment through her collaboration with Native Instruments. Future editions are already planned for other African cities and beyond .
Tems brings undeniable credibility to her cause: a two-time Grammy winner (notably for “Love Me JeJe” and her contributions to Born in the Wild), a Billboard Women in Music honoree, and the first African artist to perform at the NBA All-Star halftime show. She has consistently turned obstacles into opportunities from producing her own music to collaborating on Beyoncé and Rihanna soundtracks.
The Leading Vibe Initiative reflects Tems’ deeper vision: to shift the narrative from competition to collaboration and ensure that as African music scales, women grow at the same pace.
