Nigerian celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci has announced her next big challenge, and this time it is all about jollof rice. The award-winning chef revealed that she will be attempting to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice using 250 bags of basmati rice, a feat that has already set social media buzzing.
The massive cooking attempt is scheduled to take place on September 12, 2025, at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos. According to Hilda Baci, the specially designed pot for this record attempt is capable of holding 22,619 litres, and she plans to fill it up to about 75–80% capacity, which amounts to over 5,200 kilograms of rice. Initially, her team calculated the need for 264 bags of rice, but she has decided to round it down to 250 bags for a more strategic push.
The plan is not only to break the Guinness World Record but also to feed up to 10,000 people at the event, turning it into a food festival that celebrates Nigerian culture and the global love for jollof rice. Hilda Baci also revealed that she will be using over 1,500 kilograms of tomato-based condiments, including tomato paste, pepper chicken paste, and jollof paste, to maintain the authentic Nigerian jollof taste that the world has come to love.
This new challenge comes two years after she gained global recognition for breaking the record for the longest cooking marathon in 2023, a milestone that put her name on the international culinary map. With her latest announcement, she has once again placed Nigeria at the center of the global conversation on food, culture, and entertainment.
The attempt to cook the largest pot of jollof rice with 250 bags of rice is already trending across Nigeria, with fans, food lovers, and celebrities expressing excitement and anticipation. It is more than just a Guinness World Record attempt. It is a bold statement about Nigerian cuisine and the power of food to unite people.
If successful, Hilda Baci will not only etch her name deeper in the history books but also solidify jollof rice as one of the most iconic dishes to ever come out of Africa. This event is expected to attract international attention, food enthusiasts, and global media coverage, making Lagos the food capital of the world for the day.
