Veteran Nigerian entertainer, Charles "Charly Boy" Oputa, has weighed in on the highly publicized marital drama unfolding online between Nollywood actress Regina Daniels and her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, delivering a candid and uncompromising message.
The Reality of Marriage and Polygamy
In a video that quickly circulated online, Charly Boy acknowledged that while the ongoing public spectacle is entertaining to Nigerians, the underlying situation is serious. Drawing on his own decades of experience, the veteran rocker emphasized that marriage is hard work and requires intense management, even with just one partner.
Charly Boy stated that he has been married to one woman for 45 years, and even that has been challenging.
He also aimed a direct message at Ned Nwoko regarding his recent comments defending polygamy: "Yes, he has money, and yes, he married a younger wife, but money is not wisdom." Charly Boy stressed that certain life decisions demand maturity and wisdom, not just wealth, noting that "wisdom is not sold in any boutique."
The Danger of Public Drama
Charly Boy heavily criticized the couple for bringing their private issues into the public sphere, arguing that airing family conflicts online only serves to provide spectators with free entertainment and ammunition.
He warned that not all matters, especially those concerning children and marriage, should be dragged onto social media. Once the public is allowed into a family affair, Charly Boy cautioned, it becomes virtually impossible to control the narrative or the fallout.
His final, sharp advice to the high-profile couple was unmistakable: “Keep your dirty underwear and smelly boxers inside your house. Stop spreading family matters on the internet.”
