Tiwa Savage Says She’s Never Left a Man Because of Infidelity — It Took Theft and Drug Abuse to Break Her Silence

In a candid, no-holds-barred interview, Nigerian Afrobeats queen Tiwa Savage revealed that the reason her past relationships ended wasn’t because of cheating, but because of far more serious breaches of trust and character. She made it clear: infidelity alone wasn’t the deal-breaker. What really tore the relationship apart? Theft, drug abuse and dysfunctional behaviour.

Savage explained, in her signature unapologetic tone, that she has never ended a romantic relationship solely because her partner slept with someone else. “No, never. And I have never left someone for cheating,” she stated. “They’ll come back and apologise. That’s not a deal-breaker for me.” Instead, what forced her hand were acts of betrayal beyond emotional infidelity: “I left my ex because he was stealing from me and using drugs.”

Savage’s revelation has ignited conversations across social media about what really constitutes a deal-breaker in relationships. Her stance challenges many conventional romantic narratives where cheating is often assumed to be the ultimate final straw. Instead, she points to behaviours that undermine dignity, trust, and self-respect.

She emphasises that while people may stray, apologies and reconciliation are possible and can be accepted if the person is willing to put in the work. But when trust is violated in more permanent ways, that’s when the decision to walk away comes into sharp focus. For her, the turning point came when love crossed the line into self-sabotage and disrespect: stealing, drug use, and a disregard for her peace.

This perspective is a refreshing one in an industry and society eager for scandal and heartbreak. Instead of drama around cheating, Tiwa frames her break-up as a radical act of self-preservation. She reminds her audience; especially young Nigerian creatives and service-providers like you — that your peace, value, and dignity are non-negotiable. Her message: don’t fold when someone betrays you emotionally; fold when someone drains you, steals from you, or destroys your foundation.
