In a sudden turn of events, the final farewell for the beloved Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, has been put on hold. Originally scheduled for late January, the burial rites have been officially canceled following unresolved internal conflicts within her family.
The announcement has sent shockwaves through the gospel music community, as fans and colleagues were already preparing to pay their final respects to the iconic worship leader.
Sudden Cancellation: What We Know
The news of the suspension was broken by gospel artist Lanre Alewilese, a key member of the burial planning committee. In a statement shared via his Instagram page, he confirmed that all previously organized arrangements had been scrapped.
“This decision becomes necessary due to some issues arising from and within her family. We are deeply sorry and regret the inconveniences,” the statement read.
Alewilese later clarified in a video message that this was not a personal decision but a collective conclusion reached by both the family and the planning committee.
Events Now Suspended
Before this development, a two-day funeral program had been meticulously planned:
Service of Songs & Candlelight Procession: Originally set for Tuesday, January 20, at the LTV 8 grounds in Ikeja, Lagos.
Artiste Tribute Night: Also scheduled for the evening of January 20.
Private Interment: Initially planned for Wednesday, January 21.
Currently, all these events are on hold indefinitely. No new dates have been proposed, as the family works toward resolving their internal grievances.
