Filmhouse Group and The Special Foundation Launch Toy Story 5 Children's Cinema Drive

Anchored on the theme, Every Kid Has A Toy In Their Story, the initiative will give children from underserved communities the opportunity to experience the magic of cinema through a special Toy Story 5 screening.

Filmhouse Group, in partnership with The Special Foundation, will host a special Toy Story 5 Children's Cinema Drive at Filmhouse Cinemas, Circle Mall, giving children from underserved communities the opportunity to experience the joy of cinema in a safe, immersive and thoughtfully curated environment.

Anchored on the theme, Every Kid Has A Toy In Their Story, the initiative is built on the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to experience wonder, imagination and the power of storytelling. More than a film screening, the programme is designed to create moments of joy, belonging and inspiration, reinforcing that every child deserves access to experiences that spark creativity and remind them that their story matters.

The experience will bring children into a premium cinema environment for a shared storytelling journey inspired by the world of Toy Story 5, creating lasting memories through the magic of the big screen. The initiative reflects Filmhouse Group's commitment to extending the transformative power of cinema beyond entertainment and into communities where access to such experiences may be limited.

Toy Story 5 is distributed in Nigeria by FilmOne Entertainment, ensuring audiences across the country have access to the latest chapter of the beloved franchise.

Since its debut in 1995, Toy Story has remained one of the most enduring animated franchises, resonating across generations with its themes of friendship, courage and imagination. These values align with the initiative's belief that every child deserves the opportunity to experience wonder, creativity and shared cultural moments, regardless of background.

Speaking on the initiative, Kene Okwuosa, Group CEO, Filmhouse Group, said:

At Filmhouse Group, we believe cinema has the power to open up new worlds, and our collaboration with The Special Foundation provides the perfect opportunity to make that belief a reality. For many of these children, this will be their first time stepping into a cinema and experiencing the magic of storytelling on the big screen. This initiative is about creating access, sparking imagination, and giving every child the chance to see themselves reflected in stories that inspire hope, joy, and possibility. Above all, it's about reminding them that their stories matter.”

Speaking on the partnership, Seyi Akinwale, Founder, The Special Foundation said:

“This collaboration with Filmhouse Group reflects the kind of partnership that creates real value for children combining access, exposure, and inspiration in a way that broadens their horizons. At The Special Foundation, we are committed to expanding educational opportunities for underserved children through scholarships, mentorship, school support, and learning experiences that prepare them for life beyond the classroom. Having reached over 62,000 children through our programs, we see this experience as part of a larger mission: giving children the joy of discovery, the benefit of career exposure, and the confidence to imagine bigger futures.”

The partnership with The Special Foundation ensures the initiative reaches children who may not otherwise have access to cinema experiences. By working closely with the organisation, Filmhouse Group is able to deliver a programme that is intentional, community- driven, and rooted in meaningful engagement.

The Toy Story 5 Children's Cinema Drive reflects Filmhouse Group's ongoing commitment to using cinema not only as entertainment, but as a tool for connection, imagination and social impact. Through Every Kid Has A Toy In Their Story, the initiative creates meaningful experiences that remind every child that their story deserves to be celebrated.

As film continues to evolve as a tool for social good, what other types of community-driven initiatives do you think the Nigerian cinema industry should prioritize to better support underserved youth?
