VIDEO: D’banj delves into Afro-trap on ‘El Chapo’

With the aid of auto-tune, Wande Coal, and American rapper Gucci Mane, D’banj has released another single off his forthcoming King Don Come album.

D’banj, who has been experimenting with different sounds since parting ways with Don Jazzy, makes a foray into trap music — spiced with Afropop — in ‘El-Chapo’.

Trap music is a sub-genre which originated from southern US in the 1990s. It is heavily influenced by hip-hop.

The music video for D’banj’s El Chapo was directed by American production company, Eif Rivera.

As is with most D’banj songs and videos, the lyrics and visuals see the entertainer and his collaborators brag about their possessions and status as invincible “bosses”.

The song gets its inspiration from Mexican drug lord Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera, better known as El Chapo.

‘King Don Come’ arrives at last

After a couple of false starts, D’banj has released the much-anticipated King Don Come album, which contains 12 songs.

Besides Gucci Mane and Wande Coal, other guest artistes on the album include Phyno, Kayswitch, South Africans Bucie and Busiswa.

King Don Come, which is available on Apple Music, is D’banj’s seventh studio album (fifth solo).

Cheeky Chizzy produced a chunk of the record, laying beats for nine songs while Maleek Berry, Killertunes, Dr Amir, Floops and Shizzi also did production work.

D’banj recently released ‘Comment Ca Va’, a single which is not on the King Don Come album.
