Arsenal can't write off Cech despite Leno arrival, says Seaman

The arrival of the German will likely see the former Chelsea star dropped to the bench, but one famous face says they should keep faith in him Arsenal coach Unai Emery would be wrong to get rid of Petr Cech after the arrival of new goalkeeper Bernd Leno, says Gunners legend David Seaman.

Leno moved to north London from Bayer Leverkusen for £19.2 million ($25m) this summer as one of new coach Emery's first signings at the club. The 26-year-old is expected to displace the veteran as Arsenal's first choice shot stopper this season, but Seaman warned they would be wrong to put all their faith into Leno before he has proven himself in England.

“I don’t think [Cech] will get written off straight away,” former England goalkeeper Seaman, who spent 13 years at Arsenal, said. “You don’t disregard that experience from a guy that has won everything in the Premier League and he has won the Champions League as well. "Don’t disregard that. He has still got a lot to offer. What is interesting is that Petr has took the number one jersey. “So that means that he wants to stay around for a little while.

“It is going to be difficult. I would imagine that one of [Cech or David Ospina] will leave. "I am always cautious as to when a goalkeeper comes into the Premier League because it takes them a little while to get used to it. "If you think back to David De Gea, he really struggled in his first season at Man United but he has really pushed on since then.

"So if Leno is the number one it will be interesting just to see how he adapts to the Premier League." Leno made over 300 appearances for Leverkusen before joining the Gunners and has played six times for the Germany national team.
