Wizkid, Rema, Tems, Asake Nominated for 2025 American Music Awards

Nigerian music stars Wizkid, Rema, Tems, and Asake have all received nominations for Favourite Afrobeats Artist at the upcoming 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs). South African singer Tyla, who gained international recognition in recent years, also joins them in this category.   

The Favourite Afrobeats Artist award was introduced in 2022, with Wizkid making history as its first recipient, highlighting the global growth of the genre. The 2025 AMAs will take place on Monday, May 26th, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live worldwide.   

Jennifer Lopez will host the ceremony, returning to the AMAs stage for the first time since 2015, and is also slated to perform.   

Kendrick Lamar leads this year's nominations with an impressive 10, including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for GNX. Post Malone follows with eight nominations, while Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Shaboozey each received seven. Taylor Swift, the most awarded artist in AMAs history, secured six nominations. The 2025 AMAs will also introduce three new categories: Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Social Song of the Year.
