Child Trafficking Alert: Imo Police Rescue Boy, Arrest Two

Police in Imo State have arrested two women for allegedly attempting to sell a 4-year-old boy, Jaffa Umar, for ₦2.7 million. The suspects, Joy Ugwu and Rosella Michael, were apprehended in Owerri on April 14, 2025, following an intelligence-led operation, according to Police Public Relations Officer Henry Okoye.

Investigations revealed that Jaffa Umar was abducted in Abuja while hawking vegetables and transported to Imo State. The suspects were in the process of negotiating the sale when they were intercepted. A third suspect, a nurse, is currently at large.

The Imo State Police Command collaborated with Zone 7 Police Headquarters in Abuja to safely reunite the child with his family. The arrested suspects have been transferred to the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department (ZCID) in Abuja for further investigation and prosecution.

Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma affirmed the Command's dedication to protecting vulnerable individuals and dismantling trafficking rings within the state.
