R&B singer Cassie took the stand in federal court on Wednesday, May 14th, alleging that music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs raped her after she attempted to end their decade-long relationship. She accused him of entrapping her in a pattern of physical and sexual abuse through threats to disseminate explicit videos.
Continuing her testimony for a second day in Combs’ ongoing sex trafficking trial on Wednesday, May 14th, Cassie told the Manhattan courtroom that the music executive forcibly entered her Los Angeles residence and raped her on the living room floor after she indicated her intention to leave him.
She further described instances where Combs allegedly coerced her into participating in “hundreds” of sexual encounters with male sex workers – events she stated he recorded and observed, sometimes over several days. According to Cassie, she lived in fear that the release of these videos would destroy her reputation. “I feared for my career. I feared for my family. It’s simply embarrassing. It’s horrible and disgusting. No one should subject anyone to that,” she testified.
Prosecutors presented five still images reportedly taken from these videos, which Combs allegedly referred to as “freak-offs.” One juror reportedly showed visible signs of distress upon viewing the images.
Cassie, whose full name is Casandra Ventura, filed a lawsuit in 2023 detailing years of alleged abuse. This case was settled within hours for $20 million – a figure she publicly revealed for the first time in court. Following her lawsuit, numerous other women have come forward with similar allegations.
Federal prosecutors are accusing Combs of exploiting his influential position as a music executive to manipulate and abuse women. He faces charges including sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, and racketeering. More alleged victims are expected to provide testimony as the trial continues.
Combs, 55, has denied these accusations. His legal team acknowledges that he could be “volatile” at times but maintains that all sexual encounters were consensual and not part of any criminal enterprise. He has been incarcerated since September and could face a minimum of 15 years in prison if convicted. The trial is anticipated to last approximately two months.
Cassie’s testimony sheds light on the alleged hidden trauma behind a relationship that was often in the public eye. She stated that she met Combs in 2005 at the age of 19 when he signed her to a 10-year contract with Bad Boy Records. Their romantic relationship reportedly began a few years later.
Jurors were also shown security footage depicting Combs assaulting Cassie in a Los Angeles hotel in 2016, just two days before they were seen smiling together at a movie premiere. Combs later issued an apology after the footage surfaced in 2024.
Cassie testified that she used makeup and sunglasses to conceal her injuries at the premiere and even hid in a popcorn closet to change dresses to hide bruises on her legs.
In another alleged incident in 2013, she stated that Combs attacked her while she was preparing for a music festival, throwing her into a bed frame and causing a gash above her eye that required stitches from a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon arranged by Combs’ security.
She recounted sending him a photo of her injured face afterward with the message: “So you can remember.” His alleged response: “You don’t know when to stop. You pushed it too far. And continued to push. Sad.”
Cassie, now 38, maintained her composure on the stand following an emotionally charged first day. Her testimony continues to reveal what prosecutors describe as a long-standing pattern of coercion and abuse by a prominent figure in the music industry.
