French President Emmanuel Macron has downplayed an incident involving his wife, Brigitte Macron, captured in a video that appears to show the French First Lady pushing her husband's face.
The widely circulated video depicts President Macron emerging from the aircraft door soon after landing in the northern Vietnamese capital late on Sunday. A hand and arm, belonging to an individual partially obscured but dressed in red, is then seen seemingly making contact with the President's face from his right side.
Macron appeared momentarily surprised by the gesture but swiftly recovered his composure, proceeding to wave to the waiting press. Addressing reporters directly in Hanoi on Monday, President Macron confronted the speculation ignited by the clip.
“There’s a video showing me joking and teasing my wife and somehow that becomes a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe, with people even coming up with theories to explain it,” the President commented, dismissing the dramatic interpretations.
Macron affirmed the authenticity of the footage but criticized its manipulation and misinterpretation. “The videos are all real, and yes, sometimes people tamper with them, but people are attributing all kinds of nonsense to them.”
