TikTok Creator Ordered to Prison for Allegedly Defaming Ondo FRSC Official

A TikTok content creator, Emmanuel Ajibade, has been ordered by the Akure Division of the Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State to be remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre following accusations of cyberbullying a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) official.

Police brought Ajibade before the court, alleging that he committed the offense on April 24, 2025. According to police prosecutor Inspector Taiwo Oniyere, Ajibade, along with others still at large, is accused of cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and defamation in the Higher Height Area, Orita Obele in Akure. Oniyere alleged that Ajibade used the TikTok account “checkers69” to spread false information with the intention to “cause annoyance, inconvenience, danger, insults, and criminal defamation.” He asserted that the content shared led to “intimidation, enmity and hatred, ill will and needless anxiety” for FRSC official Ibitoye Samuel.

The prosecutor highlighted that the alleged offenses are punishable under Section 27(b) and Section 24(b) of the Cyber Crime (Prohibition and Prevention) Act, 2015, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria. He requested the court to remand Ajibade in custody to allow for further investigation into the alleged crimes. Defence counsel A.F. Awala requested permission from the court to file a counter-affidavit in response to the police’s application. In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi stated, “I have taken into account the affidavit and counter-affidavit presented by both the prosecution and the defence counsel.”

“Therefore, I hereby order the remand of the defendant in Olokuta Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the DPP,” she ruled. Ajibade is scheduled to remain in custody until June 27, 2025.
