Pope Leo XIV has formally requested the presence of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu at his official inauguration, scheduled for Sunday, May 18, 2025.
The ceremony, which will inaugurate Pope Leo XIV as the 267th Bishop of Rome, will take place at St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican.
In the invitation, conveyed through Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Pope Leo XIV emphasized the importance of Tinubu’s “presence at this critical juncture for the Catholic Church,” given the current climate of international tension and conflict.
This information was disclosed in a statement released by Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Wednesday, May 15, 2025. Onanuga noted that the invitation underscores the robust diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and the Vatican.
