Nearly five years after the passing of her mother, prominent actress and media personality Osas Ighodaro has offered an insightful look into her journey of navigating profound loss, emphasizing that the pain, though managed, never truly dissipates. Speaking as a guest on VJ Adams' talk show, Off The Top, the 34-year-old candidly discussed the persistent nature of her grief.
"I haven’t cried in a while; it has almost been five years since my mum passed away and the pain never goes away,” she remarked. She described the unpredictable surges of emotion, stating, “From time to time the emotion takes over and it can come unawares and that’s what I’m not really keen on. You could just get into the mood, and it’s a lot but I’ve learnt to allow it to take its course, brush it off and keep it moving.” This approach, she explained, is her way of managing grief: allowing emotions to be felt rather than repressed.
Osas, consistently recognized as one of Nollywood's leading figures, also shared a powerful life philosophy that helps her cope and inspires others: "One thing that has really helped me, and I usually say this when someone loses a parent, is that this situation is temporary. Live your life the best way you can so that when your time comes to transition, you have a lot to tell your family over there. So I’m trying to live my life so that when I meet my mum long from now, I’d have a lot to gist about,” she conveyed, highlighting a forward-looking perspective rooted in love and remembrance.
The tragic passing of Osas’s mother, Patricia Ighodaro, occurred in November 2020. At the time, Osas shared the news with a heartfelt Instagram tribute, describing her mother as her "best friend" and "biggest supporter."
In the years following this deeply personal loss, Osas Ighodaro has continued to achieve remarkable professional milestones. She has consistently excelled in her acting career, garnering widespread critical acclaim for her captivating performances in both cinematic productions and television series. A notable achievement includes her win for Best Actress in a Drama at the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for her compelling role in Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story.
