First Lady Remi Tinubu Donates ₦1 Billion to Plateau Attack Victims, Emphasizes Personal Fundraising

First Lady Remi Tinubu
has announced a significant donation of ₦1 billion to assist victims of the recent tragic attacks in various parts of Plateau State. During her compassionate visit to the state on Thursday, the First Lady clarified that these funds were not sourced from government coffers but were personally raised to support those in need.

"Today, I have come with a donation of ₦1 billion for the Renewed Hope Initiative," she stated, emphasizing the personal nature of the contribution. "I do not have vast sums of money, but what I have is meant to bring life, not to pour money into a basket. If I kept money for personal gain, it would only serve to satisfy greed. But my goal is to use the resources I have for good, for the development of this country, not to waste it."

She passionately urged understanding that the funds for her initiative were "not government funds. It is money I have personally raised to help others." Tinubu also requested prayers for her continued efforts to make a lasting change across Nigeria, mentioning her prayers for flood victims in other regions and her hope that rains would nourish rather than destroy. She indicated future visits to other states requiring support, such as Benue and Niger.

The First Lady also made a direct appeal to the traditional leaders present, recognizing them as "custodians of this land." She stressed their enduring role compared to transient office holders, imploring them to "bring peace to this land. God will help you to protect and preserve this land. I pray that Plateau State will flourish, and Nigeria will grow in peace and unity.”

Tinubu underscored the importance of children feeling safe to travel and explore Nigeria, emphasizing the need to protect future generations from living in fear. She cited her own extensive travels, including her National Youth Service in Kano State, as evidence of her deep connection to the nation. She asserted that her affection for Nigeria transcends politics, stemming from the blessings the country has bestowed upon her.

In response, Governor Caleb Mutfwang commended the First Lady, affirming her new role as a dedicated "mother" figure who entered government with clear objectives. He noted that while she has always been a politician, her current focus is on uplifting humanity.

"On behalf of the good people of Plateau State, I want to assure you, Ma, that your visit means so much to us. The gestures you have extended to us will leave lasting memories in our hearts," Governor Mutfwang stated. He concluded with a hopeful pledge: "One thing I would like to assure you is that, by the grace of God, we are coming together—leaders of faith, tradition, and various sectors of society—to bring an end to the three decades of crisis and violence in Plateau.”
