"Better Late Than Never": Mr. Latin Earns His BSc from NOUN, Proving Growth Has No Expiry Date

In a move that has inspired fans across the continent, Nollywood royalty Bolaji Amusan—the man we affectionately know as Mr. Latin—has officially traded his script for a degree. Proving that the pursuit of knowledge doesn't care about your age or your status, the veteran actor recently celebrated his graduation from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

Donning his academic regalia at the institution’s 15th convocation ceremony, the TAMPAN President walked across the stage to receive his Bachelor of Science in Peace and Conflict Resolution.

A Leadership-Driven Milestone

It isn't just about the gown and the cap. For someone serving as the President of the Theatre Arts and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) since 2018, a degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution is a masterstroke.

As a leader of thousands of creatives, Mr. Latin is now backed by the academic frameworks to navigate industry disputes and foster harmony—skills he’s already been using, but has now officially certified.

"I return all glory to Almighty God... It’s better late than never." — Bolaji Amusan (Mr. Latin) via Instagram.

Celebrity Support: Odunlade Adekola in the Building

It wouldn't be a Nollywood celebration without some star-studded support. Fellow screen giant Odunlade Adekola was spotted at the convocation, cheering on his colleague and friend. Their camaraderie served as a reminder of the mutual respect shared among the industry's veterans who are increasingly prioritizing formal education.

The Man, The Myth, The "Latin"

For those who only see the comedian, here is a quick refresher on the man behind the degree:

  • The Origin Story: Born in Osun State, Bolaji began acting in 1988 and pivoted to comedy in 1991.

  • The Name: In 1992, while filming 50-50, he spoke French on set. The producer, mistaking it for Latin, dubbed him "Mr. Latin." The name stuck, and a legend was born.

  • The Legacy: With over 40 films produced and the founder of the Mr. Latin Foundation, he has become a pillar of Yoruba cinema.
