"My Friends Deserted Me": Julius Agwu Opens Up About His Harrowing 2015 Brain Tumour Battle

Veteran Nigerian comedian Julius Agwu has bared his soul about the harrowing health crisis that nearly claimed his life, reflecting on his long road to recovery and the painful betrayal he faced from those he trusted most.

Appearing on the popular Beer Parlour show, Agwu provided a raw and unfiltered account of his battle with a malignant brain tumour in 2015, detailing the physical toll and the emotional isolation that followed.

A Brush with Death and a Three-Month Coma

Clearing the air regarding past speculations, Agwu confirmed the gravity of his medical ordeal:

"There are no rumours about my health. It is true; I just wanted to cool down before addressing it. I had a tumour surgery in 2015, a brain surgery."

However, the medical nightmare didn’t end in the operating room. Recalling a trip to London a year later for a comedy show, the entertainment star revealed how close he came to losing his life entirely: "Just two days before the show, I was rushed to the hospital; that was in 2016. I was in a coma for 3 months. I thank God I am alive."

The Pain of Desertion and Recovery

While surviving the surgeries and the coma was a miracle in itself, Agwu admitted that the post-recovery phase came with a heavy emotional cost. He opened up about the isolation of realizing that many familiar faces had vanished when he needed them most.

"Sometimes, I just think, what type of life am I living? During that surgery, my friends deserted me, stopped talking to me, even my manager left and stole my money," he shared candidly.

He also revealed that the complex neurological procedure left lasting impacts, noting that he struggles with memory lapses due to the nature of the brain surgery. Despite the immense hardships, Julius Agwu’s resilience stands as a powerful testament to survival, grace, and finding a renewed appreciation for life after the storm.

Julius Agwu’s journey is a powerful reminder of how quickly life can change and the true test of loyalty during difficult times. What are your thoughts on how the entertainment industry supports its ailing icons?
